Uitgebreide omschrijving
What is Program Komuniti Perkasa (PKP)?
The Program Komuniti Perkasa (PKP) is an initiative by Teach For Malaysia. Its primary goal is to foster leadership skills, design thinking, and innovation among students.
Students participating in PKP are tasked with implementing projects to address specific issues in their community. Selected teams will receive a project grant to implement their ideas after presenting their proposals.
The Mentor Role
As a PKP mentor, you’ll play a key role in guiding students through the exciting design thinking journey. Using a structured module, you’ll support them in achieving their goals, completing the module, and confidently pitching their ideas to judges. Your guidance will help transform their innovative ideas into real community impact!
Key Responsibilities and Activities
Guidance and Support
- Mentor small student groups of around five peers from the same community.
- Each group is supported by one or two mentors who stay with them throughout the project, offering guidance, encouragement, and expertise.
Attendance at Key Events and Training*

- PKP Pitching Day (June 6, 2026): Exciting session where student teams, guided by their mentors, pitch their project proposals—top teams will win project grants to bring their ideas to life!
- PKP Showcase Day (August 1, 2026): Grand finale showcase for selected teams to unveil their final projects, celebrate their achievements, and mark the exciting conclusion of PKP.
Structured Mentoring Sessions*
- Design Thinking Challenge Phase (April 25 – May 23, 2026): Conduct ~4 sessions (about 2 hours each) to help students develop their project proposals.
- Project Implementation Phase (June 13 – July 18, 2026): Guide selected teams who receive project grants through ~4 additional sessions (about 2 hours each) as they bring their projects to life.
By becoming a PKP mentor, you’re not just guiding students—you’re helping shape the next generation of changemakers while making a meaningful impact in their communities.
*Please note: Dates and event timings are tentative and may be subject to change. Mentors and student participants will be kept informed of any updates. Physical sessions are generally scheduled on weekends (Saturday or Sunday) for convenience, while online sessions may be held on weekdays after standard working hours.

Over Teach For Malaysia
Teach For Malaysia is an independent, not-for-profit organisation on a mission to give all children the opportunity to realise their potential through quality education. We partner with the Ministry of Education to reach high-need public schools. We are one of the 61 partners of the prestigious global education network Teach For All and the 2022 Merdeka Award Recipient under the Education & Community Category.
Since 2012, we have been building a transformational movement in the education system by placing the country’s most promising graduates and young professionals as full-time teachers in some of Malaysia’s most high-need schools to combat education inequity through our flagship leadership development programme called the Fellowship. In 2020, we expanded our work as the implementation partner of the 2-year nationwide Program Duta Guru (PDG), training and coaching in-service public school STEM teachers. We are also looking for passionate individuals to make an impact for our local community through our tutoring programme with students from low-cost public housing.
We believe quality education is the most powerful tool for all children to realise their potential and a collective effort is important to achieve our mission.
Join us and become part of our movement to make an impact on the education system in Malaysia.
