34 million people are suffering from social isolation in the EU. According to Aanpak Eenzaamheid, Gemeente Amsterdam, 320.000 out of 800.000 Amsterdammers are lonely. We think this is unacceptable, this is why we are developing SAM. Loneliness is not only affecting elderly people, but more and more young people are now suffering from the "loneliness epidemic". It is more likely to become lonely between age 18-34 than people aged 55+ (Mental Health Foundation). We therefore develop SAM: a more coherent and scientific approach to this constantly growing problem.
